Chattanooga Again

In the tone of Rick Pitino, "Adrian Peterson, Greg Hill, and Mark Williams ain't walking through that door."

This is our GS team as we know it today. 2-3. Consecutive conference losses at home. An offense trying to find consistency. A defense trying to find a quarterback. A fan base, trying to get some answers. What have you done for me lately?

In the eye of all of this, we've got a lot of rationalizing going on. Some say it is warranted, while others think they are excuses for poor play. We've all heard the sayings.

Last I checked, we're still Georgia Southern. A team that has always done the impossible. A team that came together by having tryouts on a tennis court. A team that has been successful almost in spite of its resources.

Rationalizing and compromising isn't in our makeup, yet this is what we are down to right now. Some schools can take "moral" victories and hang their hats on them. Why should we settle for something lesser than what we are accustomed to? If we are a spoiled bunch, then that's not our fault. The only product we've ever known is a winning one.

Sewak was let go because he couldn't advance our team in the playoffs further than what he did. Our standard was high then. BVG was let go because he was about as successful as a screen door on a submarine. We simply had standards then.

Have our standards changed? Are losing two consecutive conference games at home acceptable? Is that question even fair considering our circumstances now, or is that alone part of rationalizing?

It seems long ago that opposing teams would enter Paulson Stadium with not much of a chance to win. Once your team gives up that edge, as we have the last 3 years, then the compromising begins.

Bottom line is we've got to start winning. Now. Our playoff lives depend on it. The jury is still out with Chris Hatcher. He has a lot of slack in his rope, but it is certainly starting to tighten.

Chattanooga use to be the end of our playoff run, now it's the beginning. We have to start by taking back Chattanooga, and work our way backwards. I think these GS fans have taken their fair number of steps backwards, now it is time to move forward. They deserve it.

2-3 will make you grow up quickly. The fans have learned a lot about themselves this week, and we've come to the consensus we're tired of losing. It's time for the "Hatch Attack" to give what the fans want. A win.
